Maroondah residents can rid their homes of unwanted chemicals for free at two upcoming

Councillor and representative on the Metropolitan Local Government Waste Forum, Mike Symon said the upcoming chemical collections were the perfect opportunity to clean up your house or shed in an environmentally safe way.

“Many residents may have a few containers of unwanted or unneeded toxic household chemicals stored away that you would like to get rid of but not sure how to do it safely,” Cr Symon said.

Detox your Home allows residents to dispose of unwanted household chemicals for free without harming their health or the environment. The collected items are recycled and do not go to landfill.

“This may include items such as solvents, poisons, cleaning products, fertiliser and car care products that should never be placed in your general waste collection bin,” Cr Symon said.

“The upcoming Sustainability Victoria Detox your Home drop-off events make disposal of toxic household chemicals quick, easy and best of all, it’s free.

“Registration is required for the event and you will be provided with a time and collection point addresses upon your registration,” he said.

The next Detox your Home events are on Saturday 30 March 2019 in Doncaster East and Saturday 4 May 2019 in Wantirna South.

The Detox your Home collection service is administered by Sustainability Victoria in partnership with local Councils and is funded by the Victorian landfill levy.
