Blue Mountains City Council has established an online Condolence Book to enable residents and the broader Blue Mountains community to express their sentiments following the Christchurch mosques’ terrorist attack on Friday, 15 March 2019.
It is a gesture of support for New Zealand and Muslim communities more broadly.
Blue Mountains Mayor, Cr Mark Greenhill, said: “They were fathers, mothers, grandparents, daughters and sons, aunties, uncles, community leaders, and friends. Each and every one of them should have returned home safe to their families. Those injured, some of whom remain in a critical condition, are also in our hearts.
“Please join me in this gesture of support for New Zealand and Muslim communities more broadly.
“We reject hatred, intolerance and bigotry. We will strengthen our resolve to strive for a safe, inclusive community - locally and globally - and to stand united for a kinder future. Together, we deepen our commitment to lead by example in our own communities.”
The Condolence Book will close at midnight on Wednesday, 17 April 2019. It will then be forwarded to the Mayor, City of Christchurch on behalf of the community of the City of Blue Mountains.
Council also partnered with local community organisations to hold a vigil at Peace Park at Civic Place in Katoomba on 22 March in memory of the victims of the Christchurch tragedy.
