We are building a new bike path to improve cyclist and pedestrian safety at Middle Brighton Baths.
The upgrades follow recent community consultation with local residents and users of the Bay Trail that found strong support for separating cyclists and pedestrians along this busy section of the route.
The existing 2.5m wide shared path at the back of the Royal Brighton Yacht Club carries over 290,000 cyclists per year along with a high number of pedestrians. Constructing a dedicated path for cyclists will help to reduce conflict between pedestrians and cyclists and also enable the extension of pedestrian boardwalk area at the front of Middle Brighton Baths, making it a more appealing and welcoming area for all Bay Trail users to enjoy.
Key improvements include:
Construction of two speed humps allowing cyclists to cross the road into Middle Brighton Gardens Installation of new pedestrian only boardwalk in front of Brighton Yacht Club, separating cyclists from pedestrians Upgrade to existing streetscape including removal and/or replacement of bollards, concrete pavement and line marking. The works will begin in early April and take approximately eleven weeks to complete.
Council has also endorsed plans to upgrade the section of the Bay Trail between Sandown Street and the Royal Brighton Yacht Club and will consider funding for this project in the 2019/2020 Council Budget.
