On 28 February 2019 at its ordinary meeting, the Borough of Queenscliffe resolved to allocate $10,200 to provide and install artwork to enhance the amenity and appeal of 20-26 Hesse Street, Queenscliff, a commercial precinct located at the northern end of Hesse Street, Queenscliff.
This private property has been vacant for a number of years and currently has a fence sealing the front of the property facing Hesse Street. The owner of the land has kindly given consent to artwork being placed on his property in an effort to revitalize the space.
Borough of Queenscliffe Mayor, Cr Bob Merriman said the ambiance of Hesse Street is fundamental to the vibrancy of Queenscliff.
“This project will help the development of a more active central shopping area and could potentially lead to subsequent projects to further develop the street.”
“Council will continue to work with the community to undertake the project, including local designers, and where possible, include engagement with schoolchildren,” said Cr Merriman
Whilst the land owner has generously offered his property for this purpose in the short term, Council recognises that ownership and use of land could change. Therefore the artwork installation will be constructed in such a way that it is capable of being moved and reused for community events.
This collaborative, community-driven project will focus on celebrating old and new Queenscliff.
