A group of 11 local young people in the City of Armadale have been announced as semi-finalists in the prestigious Seven News Young Achiever Awards.
These young people are being recognised for taking the initiative to step forward and make a change in their communities and form the Kinetic youth group, which has now been active for more than a year.
Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said the group is one of nine Western Australian youth groups recognised as semi-finalists in the Woolworths Youth Group Achievement Award.
“The Kinetic were recognised in this category for showing strong leadership abilities, motivating and inspiring others, embodying a positive approach to life, and making outstanding contributions to their local community.
“Since the group formed in November 2017, some achievements have included planning and delivering a series of free youth activities in school holidays, ensuring the voice of local young people was heard and included in the City of Armadale’s draft City Centre Structure Plan, and creating a set of guidelines presented to Council on future youth spaces required based on the needs of local youth.
“The City is very proud to work with these young people, and to support their efforts to make a difference in their community.”
The Kinetic group will be part of a special on-stage ceremony at the official Awards Presentation Gala Dinner on Saturday 25 May at the Pan Pacific Perth, where a biography of their achievements will be read out on stage in the presence of VIPs and media.
Final judging takes place at the end of March and winners will be announced during the Gala Awards evening in May.
The Young Achiever Awards encourage, acknowledge and reward the valuable contributions that young people are making throughout Western Australia.
