Works are about to begin on an accessible Changing Places facility and two unisex public toilets at Jacksons Creek Reserve in Gisborne.
The new development will be within easy access of the Gisborne Aquatic Centre and the reserve’s adventure playground, which features an accessible Liberty Swing.
Changing Places facilities are larger than standard accessible toilets, and have extra features and more space to meet the needs of people with a disability and carers. Each facility has a height adjustable, adult-sized changing bench, a tracking hoist system and space for two people in a safe and clean environment.
There will be some changed traffic conditions in Branthome Street and noise during construction, however Council will aim to keep disruption for local businesses and park users to a minimum.
The Gisborne Changing Places facility, along with the additional accessible toilets, will help to ensure that people with disabilities, and their carers and families are able to participate in activities, outings and events in the community. Residents and visitors will be able to use the facility.
Council acknowledges the support of the Victorian Government for project. The project is jointly funded by Council ($150,000) and the government’s Changing Places grant ($100,000).
The Changing Places facility is expected to open in mid-2019.
