“For the week ending 22 March, the following key works were completed by Council staff”, noted Council’s Mayor, Cr. Ray Thompson.

“Within the urban Lithgow area last week, Council staff continued working towards the repair of burst services at a great number of locations, namely Rabaul Street, Martini Parade, Coalbrook Street and Hill Street. With pressure now having been normalized across the majority of the network, restorations are currently being organized by contract to minimize ongoing disruption to the community. Council continues to appreciate the patience of the community while assets are restored in these areas.”

“Last week, Council’s rural staff have focused on the maintenance of a number of rural roads in response to engineer assessment and community feedback”, said Mayor Thompson. “Last week, asphalt patching works commenced on Glen Davis Road, Kanimbla Drive, Coxs River Road and throughout the laneways of Portland. Additionally, maintenance grading teams worked on Barretts Crossing Road and Glen Davis Road to better ensure asset longevity.”

“Grants are an extremely important source of funding for Lithgow City Council, especially in the construction of new assets throughout the area” said Mayor Thompson. “Last week, Council engineers applied for two grant applications in an attempt to attract significant state funding to lay a new seal over 7.5 kilometres of Glen Davis and Glen Alice Roads. As these sections are currently unsealed, Council has applied for over $1.8M to complete this work and achieve objectives under the Fixing Country Roads and Drought Relief Heavy Vehicle Access programs. Completion of these projects will ensure a sealed road from Capertee to Rylstone with attributed benefits to heavy vehicle access, commercial business in remote areas and local tourism,” noted Mayor Thompson. “As part of these projects we sought community support from the Capertee Valley and were impressed with the resounding response and sense of community pride. It should also be noted that if successful, this work will be completed in addition to Council’s standard program of asset renewals and will not reduce the work completed with rate funded revenue.”
