Council is committed to proactive asset management

Central Highlands Regional Council has committed $2 million towards assessing the condition of council assets including sewer and stormwater networks, roads, bridges and major culverts.

Council’s newly appointed General Manager Corporate Services Margaret Gatt said the two-year project will ensure council assets are managed proactively.

‘The project will provide council with an overall understanding of the condition of council assets at one point in time,’ Ms Gatt said.

She said over the next two years a number of projects will assess infrastructure and utility assets, beginning with sewer networks in the major towns this month.

‘An assessment of criticality and risk identified the sewer networks to be a priority, hence the urban sewer condition assessment is the pilot of the overall project,’ Ms Gatt said.

‘Further assessments will include structural assessments of 38 bridges and 80 culverts, stormwater networks in major towns and completion of an overall asset condition assessment of sealed roads.’

CEO Scott Mason said the project demonstrates council’s commitment to sustainable and proactive asset management.

‘The data gathered from the assessments will help council to make informed decisions, prioritise spending and adopt prudent and efficient allocation of funds,’ CEO Scott Mason said.

‘It is important to recognise the work council and its employees are putting into this and many other projects to deliver on its values of continuous improvement, a sustainable future and efficient investment in our communities.’
