Liverpool City Council work crews are inspecting drainage areas and clearing blockages that may be providing breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
Council has received a number of complaints this week about mosquitoes in the LGA, predominantly in Wattle Grove and Chipping Norton, and has notified NSW Health.
NSW Health provides advice about mosquito management and Council has been advised that the NSW Public Health Unit is currently monitoring mosquito activity around Liverpool Hospital and Warwick Farm Sewage Treatment Plant.
Council has also been advised by NSW Health that local mosquito populations will reduce rapidly in coming weeks as temperatures drop.
Council is not aware mosquito spraying has been conducted in the Liverpool LGA.
Council will seek to engage key stakeholders to explore future options for mosquito management and control around the Georges River.
Council has been advised by NSW Health that any mosquito control program would need to address not only Council land but include other landholders who have identified breeding areas for mosquitos such as Warwick Farm Sewage Treatment Plant, dense vegetation areas of Defence land and National Parks land alongside Georges River.
