More than 500 people attended the inaugural Transition Towns Queenscliffe Sustainable Living Show on Saturday 23 March 2019.

Residents from across the Bellarine and visitors from Melbourne and intestate came together in an effort to learn more about simple ways to incorporate sustainable practices in daily life. Some of the highlights from the day included:

- Members from the Queenscliff and District Men’s Shed, who had collected coffee grinds from 17 local cafes to give away, providing advice on how to best use them to improve soils in the garden. - ‘Teabag tag art’ in the shape of oversized flowers prepared by the Bellarine Community Health CARE group. - The highly attended Quick Talks program, which covered topics such as converting an established home into a sustainable home, starting and maintaining a worm farm, keeping bees in your backyard, tiny homes and growing food in tight spaces. - A showcase of old and new vehicles, including an electric car and a Morris Minor on display. - Market stallholders selling locally produced honey, beeswax food wraps, indigenous plants, homewares, clothing and more.

Borough of Queenscliffe Mayor, Cr Merriman said the success of the event was testament to the hard work and dedication of the event organisers.

“The Sustainable Living Show provided a wonderful opportunity for both locals and visitors to our town to gain expert advice and learn more about smart, simple and sustainable living solutions.”

“Terrific initiatives such as more than 150 jars distributed to patrons to take home to replace and recycle their existing plastic containers and over 100 pairs of reading glasses collected by the Uniting Church to be donated to the South Pacific Islands were implemented.”

“This event really highlighted the vital message of sustainability and I congratulate all involved in bringing the Sustainable Living Show to life”, said Cr Merriman.
