Young people in Maroondah looking for something to do over the school holidays will be happy to know EV’s Youth Centre will remain open over the Easter break.
Deputy Mayor, Cr Kylie Spears said that following the success of a recent trial, the popular youth hub will keep open its doors each and every school holiday.
“Strong visitation over the Christmas period shows there is a need for a place for our City’s young people to go.
“Council is proud to be able to offer programs and EV’s Hangout, a free drop-in centre where young people aged 12-25 can meet up, outside of normal school terms for the first time,” she said.
From music and event management training, connecting with your LGBTI youth community or help getting your driver’s licence, EV’s has loads of resources and youth-friendly activities, with programs catering for ages 12-25.
“EV’s offers a wide range of information resources and all sessions are free and fully supervised by Council’s Youth Services team,” Cr Spears said.
“Youth workers are also there to provide a friendly ear and information on almost any issue, including school, finding a job, family issues, getting involved in the community, or if a young person is just having a hard time.
“A lot can change when you turn 18, so by focussing on this older age bracket youth workers can tailor programs and prepare sessions with age-relevant information, such as writing resumes and preparing for job interviews,” she said.
The youth hub is open from 3pm to 6pm every Thursday, except on public holidays.
EV’s is at 212 Mt Dandenong Road, Croydon and is just a 6-minute walk from Croydon Station. EV’s is also wheelchair accessible.
