Council’s Clean Up Australia Day event which was scheduled for this Sunday at Alva Beach has been postponed to Sunday 7 April due to weather forecasts.
Cr McLaughlin said the rescheduled event will now commence after midday, and not the usual 8:30am.
“High tides are predicted for Sunday morning, so we’ve decided to change things a bit this year. Volunteers can now enjoy a Sunday sleep in before coming down for a 12:30pm start,” Cr McLaughlin said.
“This year we will start with a complimentary barbeque before setting out to clean up Alva Beach.
“We’re hoping the later start will see an increase in volunteer numbers, which means we’ll be able to remove even more rubbish from our precious coastline.”
Volunteers are asked to meet at the Ayr Surf Life Saving Club in Sandowns St, Alva at 12:30pm on Sunday 7 April.
All volunteers should wear closed in shoes, sun safe clothing and a hat. Gloves and other equipment will be supplied.
