Students at Mildura’s FLO Connect have thrown their support behind White Ribbon by hosting their own Cheese for Change event this week.
Cheese for Change is a nationwide initiative of White Ribbon, providing a chance for friends, family and co-workers to get together over cheesy snacks to raise awareness and funds for the prevention of violence against women.
Mildura Mayor Simon Clemence said this week's Cheese for Change morning tea was a great way for students to reinforce the knowledge they’ve gained through the Victorian Government’s Respectful Relationships program.
An important part of the FLO Connect curriculum, the Respectful Relationships program teaches young people how to build healthy, respectful relationships with positive attitudes and behaviours.
Cr Clemence said these themes and behaviours were at the cornerstone of White Ribbon’s push to stop violence against women.
“By being involved in events like Cheese for Change and learning more about White Ribbon, it reinforces the themes and lessons our FLO Connect students are learning through the Respectful Relationships Program and how important they are outside the classroom,” Cr Clemence said.
“This is also a fantastic way of spreading the White Ribbon message to our younger generation.”
In addition to learning more about White Ribbon, this week's event also allowed students to utilise the skills learned though their ‘Cooking on a Budget’ course to create a host of delicious cheesy snacks for their guests.
