Temporary road closure in place for road construction & bridge replacement on Mulligans Flat Road
Council will commence the final stage of road construction on Mulligans Flat Road, Sutton as well as the demolition and construction of a new concrete bridge on Monday, 25 March. The road will be temporarily closed to traffic, with works to conclude before the end of June 2019.

“Mulligans Flat Road is the highest trafficked, unsealed road in our Local Government Area and provides a key link for regional commuters into the north of the ACT,” said Yass Valley Mayor, Rowena Abbey. “The sealing of the road has been a major priority for Council, with significant investment made into the road over the last four years.”
The temporary road closure of Mulligans Flat Road will detour traffic onto Sutton Road and East Tallagandra Lane, adding approximately 6km to the trip. Council has investigated options to keep the road open during the construction works. However with a heavily reduced speed limit and traffic control in place it is anticipated that delays will be longer than the short detour via East Tallagandra Lane.
“We understand that this temporary road closure will cause an inconvenience to local residents and road users and we do apologise for this and ask for everyone’s patience during the project,” said Yass Valley Council Director Engineering, Stan Robb. “By closing the road to through traffic it will fast track how quickly the project can be completed and our contractor understands the importance of having this road re-opened to traffic as soon as possible.”
Local access will be provided to property owners that front Mulligans Flat Road, between Sutton Road and East Tallagandra Lane, as well as access for all emergency vehicles.
Council was successful in obtaining $940,000 under round 3 of the NSW Government’s Fixing Country Roads program, with Council allocating a further $360,000 in the 2018/2019 budget. In 2015/2016 Council sealed 1.35km of Mulligans Flat Road ($470,000) and in 2016/2017 a further 1.76km ($816,000).
