An old-school drive-in movie night, a silent disco, skate park competitions, and a market showcasing young people’s products are some of the awesome events scheduled for Youth Week in Eurobodalla this month.
Youth Week is a time of celebration for Australia’s young people, where they can share ideas, have their voices heard, showcase their talents and talk up their contribution to the community.
Eurobodalla Council and its Youth Advisory Committee is celebrating the shire’s young people with a week of fun events from Wednesday 10 April to Thursday 18 April.
Member of Council’s Youth Advisory Committee Sevina Small urged other young people to get in on the fun, with some innovative new events this year.
“I’m looking forward to the silent disco,” said the Year 11 student from St Peter's Anglican College.
“It’s a dance party but everyone has their own headphones and listens to different music. You’re bopping along to your favourite tunes and someone else is bopping along to theirs.”
Organised by the committee, the silent disco, on Thursday 18 April, 6-9pm in Narooma, will help raise awareness of youth living with diabetes.
Council’s youth development officer Mark Ettridge said it was an experience not to be missed in what was a bumper week of events.
“Last year’s pop-up drive-in movie at Riverside Park in Moruya was a great success and is back again this year on Wednesday 17 April, with the classic film, Back to the Future,” he said.
“We’re encouraging learners, P-platers, and their friends and families to come along.”
Other returning events include a bike safety program for Aboriginal and disadvantaged youth, and our popular free skate park competitions, run by All Aboard at Narooma on Saturday 13 April and Moruya on Sunday 14 April.
Mr Ettridge said Youth Street, at Moruya Country Markets on Saturday 13 April, gave youth an opportunity to showcase their products or business ideas to a bigger audience.
“Regular market-goers can see exciting ideas and products from our next generation of entrepreneurs – so bring your cash,” Mr Ettridge said.
