A new exhibition at Mildura Arts Centre (MAC) showcasing the work of Mildura-born artist Maree Clarke represents a major new creative initiative between MAC and one of Victoria’s largest arts organisations, Craft Victoria.
Reimagining Culture – Contemporary Connections to Country is a selection of both existing and new works reflecting Maree’s family, culture and origins in the Mildura area as Mutti Mutti, Boonwurrung, Yorta Yorta people.
Councillor for Arts and Culture Jason Modica said the unique exhibition showcases Maree’s multi-disciplinary talents through her existing works, as well as new artwork in collaboration with her nieces and nephews.
“Maree’s family live in the Sunraysia area and this is a fantastic medium for them to provide us with an insight into their culture and traditions, both now and during their ancestors’ time,” Cr Modica said.
“Through their artwork, we also see the respect they have for the land and their drive to keep their traditional culture alive.”
Described as a “fantastic, powerful exhibition”, Reimagining Culture – Contemporary Connections to Country opened last month and is exclusive to MAC.
The exhibition will run through until Sunday 12 May and is free to view.
