The findings of last year’s North Queensland Agricultural Market & Supply Chain Study will be revealed during the inaugural North Queensland Agribusiness Future Forum on Wednesday 10 April.
The 12-month study, led by consultants KPMG, investigated emerging markets as well as analysed supply chain gaps and sector capacity within the agricultural industry.
In addition to revealing KPMG’s findings, the event will provide the North Queensland agriculture sector with an update on the demand trends of key ASEAN markets and the Indo-Pacific Economic Corridor.
It will also provide insight into how our region can better position itself to take advantage of these trends through improved efficiencies, productivity and yields, continuity of supply and resultant improved profitability.
Up to 25 speakers and panellists will be featured during the event. Highlights include presentations by Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries (Hon. Mark Furner) on North and North West Queensland’s contribution to the State’s food and agribusiness sector and provide an update on flood recovery progress and Agforce CEO Michael Guerin’s presentation on recovery and resilience agenda targeting North West Queensland cattle producers.
Burdekin Shire Council Mayor Lyn McLaughlin said Council was proud to support the event.
“Whilst the Burdekin has traditionally been a sugar cane growing district, Council has in recent years been focused on facilitating opportunities for diversification,” she said.
“Primary producers in our Shire are renowned for being keen to explore and invest in new opportunities. This forum will provide them with the information needed to take advantage of emerging markets.
“To assist residents wishing to attend the forum, Council is providing free transport from Council Chambers to and from the event.”
