Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has launched a ‘Walks and Trails of Toowoomba Region’ guide booklet to highlight 50 local nature treks for the outdoor enthusiasts.
TRC’s Environment and Community portfolio leader Cr Joe Ramia said Council is keen to promote a healthy lifestyle and this handy reference guide will assist our community through the walks and trails that traverse our Region’s diverse landscapes and the spectacular natural environment.
“We have a range of iconic walks throughout our region that allows the intrepid trekker to pursue their love of everything outdoors passing through some amazing landscapes, Cr Ramia said.
“Outdoor adventurers will be spoilt for choice with the booklet outlining settings from urban circuits to bushland parks, mountain biking tracks and horse riding trails.
“The walks and trails included in the guide booklet are graded for all fitness levels with options for the novice trekker through to the experienced outdoor enthusiasts, Cr Ramia said.
“Bushwalkers can explore the 160 kilometres long Brisbane Valley Rail Trail which is one of the longest trails in Australia stretching from the hills of Yarraman through to Wulkuraka near Ipswich.
“Alternately, if it is more the leisurely stroll you are looking for the 250-metre long Wallaby Walk at J E Duggan Park might be more your style.
“Or you may even wish to explore the offerings at Mt Peel with the choice of bike, walking or horse-riding trails allowing the enthusiast a selection of options to explore the surrounds.
“There are so many opportunities for all the family to discover as you explore our beautiful Toowoomba Region, Cr Ramia said.
“A recent Council survey on ‘sport, active recreation and healthy living’ found an emerging trend in our community of the growing popularity of nature-based recreational activities.
“In that survey, bushwalking was rated in the top three activities for males and females across all age groups and was the number one activity survey respondents said they’d like to do more of in future.
“Previous consultation with walking groups highlighted the need for a trails guide and also the significance of Council’s Toowoomba Region Trails Network Strategy which aims to provide unique experiences and provide trail-based recreation activities for our residents and visitors.
“The Walks and Trails of Toowoomba Region is a well-designed guide for both visitors and residents which provides a range of useful information regarding the opportunities to get out and about on the trails and walks in our region.
“The guide will assist the community to explore and enjoy a year-round celebration of the splendour of our Region and the joy of discovering its glorious open spaces on a bike, horseback or on foot.”
