Held from October through to the end of March, the City’s Summer Series is a program of free, family-friendly, smoke-free and alcohol-free events. It gives residents the opportunity to connect and engage in fun, free activities during the warmer months of the year at the City’s foreshore reserves and parks. The 2018/2019 Summer Series began in October with the City’s Furry Friends Fun Day and the much-loved Teddy Bears Picnic at Fantasy Park in Waikiki. Throughout the summer a series of outdoor cinema screenings were held across the City, with families relishing the opportunity to catch a number of films in a beautiful open air environment. In December and January the Rockingham Beach Foreshore precinct was abuzz with activity as the City hosted the inaugural Rockingham Christmas Lights Festival, New Year’s Eve celebrations, the Youth Beach Party and the Australia Day 2019 fireworks. The fun continued to come thick and fast in February, with thousands attending the Romance on the Green spectacular at the Village Green. Led by acclaimed conductor Jessica Gethin, the Perth Symphony Orchestra and special guests wowed concertgoers with a range of classic and modern day tunes. Summer Series action concluded in March with a number of events including the International Food Festival, Baldivis Connects Community Fun Day and the Community Breakfast Ride for Bike Week. City of Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels thanked the community for making the 2018/2019 Summer Series unforgettable. "The City’s Summer Series is a fantastic program of events that gives residents of all backgrounds and ages the opportunity to get outside during the hotter weather and connect with each other," Mayor Sammels said. "During the Summer Series we were thrilled to host 17 events in a variety of locations across the City. Whether it was a movie screening in Secret Harbour or fireworks at the Rockingham Beach Foreshore, the community has responded with great enthusiasm and made the 2018/2019 Summer Series one to remember."
