Sunday, April 28, 2019, 10 – 11:30am Join members of Brisbane City Council’s City Architecture and Heritage Team on a guided tour of Brisbane’s Classic City Centre heritage trail. The one and a half hour walking tour highlights an exciting range of sites and events that have shaped Brisbane’s history. The trail takes you on a journey through the city’s early convict history, including the ‘Great Fire of Brisbane’ in the 1860s, its commercial prosperity in the 1880s boom time, the intense military presence during World War II and in to the 1970s. The Classic City Centre Heritage Trail begins in Queen Street, passes by City Hall to Ann Street and then up Jacob’s Ladder to Wickham Terrace. It then continues to ANZAC Square, the General Post office (GPO), St Stephen’s Cathedral and back to Queen Street, passing MacArthur’s Headquarters on Edward Street.
