Council welcomes funding to plan a multicultural hub

Cardinia Shire Council has welcomed the Australian Government’s announcement to support the planning and design of a new multicultural hub concept within Cardinia Shire.
At Pakenham Library in Pakenham yesterday, Federal Member for La Trobe, Jason Wood MP announced $350,000 in funding toward the design and planning for a new multicultural hub facility concept.
Cardinia Shire Deputy Mayor Councillor Collin Ross said the project, being managed by Council, would strengthen the Cardinia Shire community and welcome people from across Melbourne’s south east to the area.
“A facility like this will help us bring together people from different backgrounds across the shire and wider to share in experience and knowledge, and build new relationships,” Cr Ross said.
“We have such a diverse spread of cultures and so much to learn and gain from each other. It is a core objective for us to facilitate connection among the people in our community, and we thank Mr Wood and the Australian Government for the funding commitment for planning towards this vital community space,” said Cr Ross.
Council will use the funding from the Australian Government to engage a project officer and supporting consultants to work with us and the community on assessing and developing the preferred delivery model and design of a multicultural hub concept.
A significant part of this project will be extensive consultation and engagement with all stakeholders across our multicultural community within Cardinia Shire. Consultation and engagement with community and industry organisations who work with our multicultural community will also be undertaken.
