The 2019-20 Australian Government budget announced this week confirms a $4 million boost for commuter parking in Hampton.

In February, Council welcomed the announcement by the Prime Minister, the Hon Scott Morrison MP; Hon Alan Tudge MP, Minister for Cities, Urban Infrastructure and Population and Federal Member for Goldstein Tim Wilson MP.

Bayside’s Mayor, Cr Michael Heffernan said that parking availability was an important issue for Bayside, affecting public transport users as well as residents in streets surrounding train stations.

“I am delighted by this announcement as it provides much needed funding for more spaces at Hampton station car park which fills up very early each morning.”

“Council has been calling for increased investment in commuter parking from other levels of government for some time”, he said.

“Our current trial of a Commuter Bus service for Middle Brighton station shows that Council is serious about relieving the pressure on commuter parking in Bayside.”

“We look forward to working with current and future State and Federal governments to deliver on important infrastructure for our community”, Cr Heffernan said.

Council is currently working with our federal and state counterparts on how and where in Hampton the additional parking will be delivered.
