Ideas invited to develop new Active Transport Plan for Lithgow and surrounding villages

Have your say on the formation of the Lithgow Active Transport Plan

Lithgow City Council is developing a new Active Transport Plan for the Lithgow Council area, aimed at improving the bicycle and pedestrian network. A major focus of the Active Transport Plan is to encourage greater participation in walking and cycling activities throughout the wider Lithgow area, which can also lead to benefits in community health and wellbeing.

“The formation of the Active Transport Plan is an important step in improving our pedestrian and cycling network. It will also provide our communities with the infrastructure and facilities needed to deliver health, lifestyle and social benefits,” Mayor Ray Thompson said.

“I encourage all community members to be involved in the formation of the Active Transport Plan to ensure that important community projects and improvements are considered,” Cr Thompson added.

Lithgow City Council will be holding an additional community workshop on Thursday 11 April 2019 from 5:00pm to 6:30pm at the Council Administration Building, 180 Mort Street Lithgow. The project team will also be located in Cook St Plaza between 12:00pm and 1:30pm on the day for members of the community, who may not be able to attend the workshop, to have their say.

Interested groups and individuals are encouraged to attend the workshop to ensure that the plan reflects the needs of the community and helps deliver the new and improved bicycle and pedestrian facilities needed in the area.

People who are unavailable to attend the workshop are also able to have their say by filling out a survey which is available online at the following website www.haveyoursay.lithgow.com. In addition, hardcopies of the survey are available from the Lithgow, Wallerawang and Portland Libraries and from Council’s administration building.

This project aligns with Council’s Community Strategic Plan 2030 by providing a choice of effective public and private transport options, suitable entertainment and recreational facilities, and lifestyle choices while enhancing the existing rural areas, villages and towns that make up the Lithgow LGA.
