Art Meets West, the annual market celebrating arts and youth culture, is one of the highlights of Youth Week 2019 in Liverpool.
CPAC Youth and Liverpool Youth Council have organised an eclectic mix of stalls and musicians, said Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller.
“Liverpool City Council continues to support a thriving arts and culture scene in parallel with our growing city,” Mayor Waller said
Held at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, the market will have 17 stalls to peruse and a line-up of 10 musicians entertaining the crowd. There will also be a suitcase rummage full of pre-loved clothing to explore – a statement in support of ethical fashion.
South West Sydney artists David Langosch and Phu Nguyen are selling steampunk inspired jewellery at their stall.
The duo’s handmade rings have an exquisite, other-worldly beauty with coloured resin poured onto a sturdy wooden base.
“I taught myself how to make jewellery. From marking the stencil on wood to sanding the resin, each ring takes about an hour to produce,” Nguyen said.
Self-taught artist Carla Joy will be selling prints of her original drawings. Inspired by nature and music, Carla’s illustrations are surreal and open to interpretation.
“It is my first time joining Art Meets West as a stallholder. I hope people are intrigued by my prints and are inspired to create their own art too,” Joy said.
Besides shopping, market goers can enjoy live entertainment and amazing food catered by Bellbird Dining and Bar.
“I connect with my audience on an emotional level through a mix of blues, ballad and indie,” local musician Ebony Rose Holmes said.
“This is such an awesome opportunity to bring people together to enjoy themselves and be creative.”
Art Meets West will be held from 10:00am – 3:00pm at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre on Sunday 14 April 2019.
