Northern Midlands Council to receive funding boostMayor Mary Knowles OAM has today confirmed that the Northern Midlands Council will benefit from over $7m in funding from the National’s in Government toward four of Council’s strategic projects.
“Council has a number of plans in place to improve our municipal area, having already commenced projects to improve our sporting facilities, this funding will enable Council to continue with the business of upgrading and improving our facilities making the Northern Midlands attractive to new residents and visitors alike” Mayor Knowles said.
Mayor Knowles and council’s general manager, Des Jennings, welcomed the announcement by Senator Steve Martin to provide funding toward the following projects:
The Longford Urban Design Strategy project will benefit from $4m in funding to reinvigorate the town’s parklands and main street, traffic management and pedestrian safety concerns; The current rapid residential growth of Perth has necessitated the upgrade and expansion of the Perth Early Learning and Child Care Centre, the $2.6m in funding will allow council to commence with this project which has been costed at over $4.2m; $400,000 will enable works to commence on the upgrade of the Cressy swimming pool complex, including a renovated kiosk/office, new entrance, shade structure and general improvements; and $50,000 towards a refreshed and serviceable children’s playground with a farming theme and security lighting at Boucher Park in Avoca.ENDS
