Toilets' unique features

Weathered architecture elements, glow in the dark paths and the use of a grass type that requires less water and maintenance highlight the progress of two public toilet projects within the Gannawarra Shire.

Residents and visitors will soon benefit from new facilities at Apex Park, Cohuna and Scoresby Street, Kerang, with both projects on track to be operational this month.

The new toilet facilities at Cohuna’s Apex Park are at nearing completion, with custom roof trusses installed during late March.

“The weathered trusses mirror the architectural elements featured at the Gateway to Gannawarra Visitor Centre, and it is hoped this feature will appear in future infrastructure projects along Gunbower Creek at Cohuna,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.

Works to convert the public toilets at Scoresby Street, Kerang (pictured) are also progressing, with the location being transformed into a community garden.

A new toilet block has been installed, with the development of the neighbouring garden and community space nearing completion.

“New paths have been completed on-site, featuring a glow stone finish,” Mayor Learmonth said.

“These stones provide a functional purpose in guiding people to the on-site facilities without the need for extra lighting on-site.”

Works to lay turf in the open space precinct were recently completed, with Council choosing to use a new sub-strain of grass – Sir Grange Zoysia.

“This sub-strain of grass uses 75 per cent less water and requires 75 per cent less maintenance than traditional Buffalo and Kikuyu turf,” Mayor Learmonth said.
