Apply for fine fuel fire permits

Published on 01 April 2019

Gannawarra Shire Council residents can now apply for Schedule 13 permits to burn fine fuel – such as grass, stubble and weeds.

Although the Fire Danger Period is still in place and scheduled to end on 1 May, rural landowners may conduct planned burns on their property after completing the relevant paperwork.

“Schedule 13 permits allow landowners to conduct stubble burning for agricultural purposes during the Fire Danger Period,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.

“If issued, the permit does not allow the permit holder to conduct burning on a day of Total Fire Ban.

“All planned burns also need to be registered with Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority. This can be done by phoning 1800 668 511. Residents should also inform their neighbours that they will be conducting a planned burn.”

Applications for Schedule 13 permits are available from Council or through the Country Fire Authority.
