New-look tourist brochure to be launched at historic home

A bright new promotional booklet promoting St George and the surrounding region will be officially launched at the historic Anchorage Homestead on Wednesday 17 April at 10am.

Balonne Shire Council’s Tourism Committee chair Cr Robyn Fuhrmeister said the new larger format featured a taste of what was on offer to visitors to the shire.

“There is a lot to see and do in our region and we want visitors to take home a booklet full of current and historical information about St George and surrounds,” she said.

“We are very fortunate to live in this beautiful part of southern Queensland and we want to make sure visitors have the opportunity to see as much as they possible can while they are here.

“The St George & Surrounds Travellers’ Guide also includes handy service information for those staying in our region.”

Cr Fuhrmeister thanked the Teunis family, the current owners of the Anchorage Homestead, for opening their home to visitors for the launch.

“This heritage-listed home is a wonderful piece of our region’s history. It was built in 1903 by Arthur Bennett for Andrew William Nixon – who helped build the first bridge across the Balonne River at St George,” she said.

“I’m very happy to announce that the Anchorage Homestead will be included as part of a wider history tour of St George which will be offered by the St George Visitor Information Centre this tourist season and those attending the launch on Wednesday can get a sneak preview of the home.

“It’s been a long time since people were able to view the beauty of this double-storey home and we are very lucky to be able to share its beauty with visitors.

“Council is very happy to help spread the word about our region and we look forward to welcoming visitors over the coming months.”

The St George & Surrounds Travellers’ Guide launch will be held at the Anchorage Homestead, Wagoo Road, St George at 10am on Wednesday 17 April 2019. Morning tea and a tour of the Anchorage Homestead will follow the launch.
