“For the week ending 5 April, the following key works were completed by Council staff”, noted Council’s Mayor, Cr. Ray Thompson.

“Within the urban Lithgow area last week, Council staff continued working towards the completion of major stormwater improvements at the Golf Club in Marrangaroo. With much of the sensitive works completed, works are steadily progressing. Additionally, last week Recreation and Transport staff worked together to install a number of planter boxes within Cook Street Plaza to soften the streetscape in this area. Additional planter boxes are proposed to be installed in spring which will include flowering plants that would not grow at this time of the year. We’ve most certainly heard and acknowledge the concerns of the community regarding this area and have adapted a medium term image of Cook Street Plaza that will address this matter and deliver a streetscape the community can be proud of.”

“In terms of road maintenance, last week Council’s rural staff focused on the grading of many of Council’s more rural road assets”, said Mayor Thompson. “With Council’s capital works program nearing completion, resources have been freed up to attend to many priority maintenance projects. Of note, Ganbenang Road has had shoulder repairs completed, Lochaber Road has had stormwater pipes installed to reduce erosion, Barretts Crossing Road and Honeysuckle Falls Road have been graded and Council is currently performing maintenance on all roads within the Glen Davis township. Where required, Council is transporting free road base reclaimed from regional RMS projects to maintenance job sites to improve road conditions and asset longevity at greatly reduced cost.”

“Lastly, I am pleased to note that this week, Council has installed a new administration system at the Lithgow Aquatic Centre with the aim to increase levels of service able to be provided to patrons,” said Mayor Thompson. “This new system will mean that all existing members, including fitness passport holders, will need to update their details and receive a new card from the time of implementation of this system. Those patrons requiring use without ongoing membership can still purchase a printed daily use docket from reception. As always, without membership or a form of daily use ticket, a patron will not be able to gain access to the facility. The staff at the centre aim for a smooth transition and will be available for any questions the public may have about the changes,” said Mayor Thompson.
