The Lithgow Animal Shelter’s recent free microchipping has been hailed a great success!
Hosted by Lithgow City Council at Lithgow Animal Shelter, 44 pets from all over the local government area received a microchip over the Month of March.
Microchipping your dog or cat helps keep them safe and means you can be reunited much quicker if your pet is lost. All dogs and cats in NSW must be microchipped by 12 weeks old or before being sold or given away (whichever happens first). Fines apply if owners fail to microchip or register their pet.
“It was excellent to see such a high turnout for this initiative. It will ensure that these pets are reunited with their owners if they go missing. I must thank Council’s Rangers for providing their expertise. Without them this would not have been possible.” Mayor of Lithgow, Councillor Ray Thompson said.
This is also a timely reminder for owners to check their contact information is up to date and talk to staff on responsible pet ownership, including lifetime registration. Have you checked your pet’s microchip information lately?
