Comic book fans can dress up as their favourite character, battle against other gamers or join a light saber class this Comic Book Day.

The event at the HJ Daley Library will offer prizes for the best cosplay costumes, and feature geek pop singer Meri Amber and the Sons of Obiwan Saber Academy, from 10am to 3pm, Saturday 4 May.

Talented comic book artist, Matthew Lin will host two half-hour drawing workshops and also be drawing quick comic sketches for visitors on the day.

There will be games of Quidditch on the lawn outside, run by the Macarthur Weasleys Quidditch Club, an augmented reality Star Wars experience, Pokemon Trading Card Gaming, superhero bingo, free comic book giveaways, facepainting, craft workshops and a sausage sizzle.

“There are many levels to gaming and comic related play from video games to engaging in physical activity and Campbelltown has a very healthy gaming and cosplay scene,” said Mayor George Brticevic.

“It’s a pastime that blends creativity with mental agility and a real sense of fun. Also, unlike most cosplay events with expensive ticketing, this is entirely free to get in,” Cr Brticevic said.

The event has been organised in partnership with Campbelltown gaming and pop culture company Iconic Nerd.

“There will be a lot of interactive activities for fans to join in and the whole day should have a really good vibe,” said Daniel Fisher from Iconic Nerd.

“There will also be a panel of cosplay experts holding a Q&A in the morning,” he said.

Awards for best cosplay costume will be given in two categories – under 12s and over 13s. Competitors must register before 11.30am on the day and should refer to Council’s guidelines on cosplay dress and accessories at www.campbelltown.nsw.gov.au/campbelltown-cosplayrules

Comic Book Day is an all ages, family friendly event. Entry is free and no bookings are necessary.
