Recycling negotiations continue Published: 9 April 2019

Although our recycling processor, SKM, has reopened all of its processing sites, these sites are operating at a limited capacity.

The Hallam Transfer Station (through which all our collected recycling materials is transported) remains closed. Thus unfortunately, the recycling collections for our catchment continue to be diverted to landfill.

SKM is working with the City of Casey to meet some urgent compliance requirements before they can reopen the Hallam Transfer Station and recommence accepting recycling waste from Cardinia Shire and the other councils that use the site. We do hope that this will reopen in the near future, and when this occurs we will announce the reopening on our website and Facebook page.

We recognise and share in the frustrations and disappointment of our community about this situation and wish to thank you sincerely for your patience and understanding while we are continuing to work with our contractors to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

Cardinia Shire residents have a great record when it comes to recycling and the best thing we can all do at this time is to reduce our household waste. There are some great tips on how to do this at https://www.sustainability.vic.gov.au/You-and-your-home/Waste-and-recycling/Recycling

We encourage you to keep separating your recyclable items from your non-recyclable items, and to put your recyclable items in your recycling bin (with the yellow lid). You can continue putting your recycling bin out for collection when it’s your recycling week as it will continue to be collected from your kerbside as normal.

If you wish to continue recycling during this period, you can take your waste to these free collection points:

We will be providing updates to the situation as soon as we have more information to share and we thank all our residents for their patience, understanding and cooperation during this time.
