Better footpaths and cycleways, more trees and improvements to community facilities will be just some of the priorities on Council’s to-do list over the coming years.

From today, Wednesday 10 April, our draft Delivery Program and Operational Plan will be open for community comment. These documents are our go-to guides that set out what we’re doing to make Wollongong a great place to live, work and play both now and into the future.

The documents outlining our immediate plans and future goals are open for community feedback until Monday 13 May 2019.

“Over the next three financial years, Wollongong City Council will invest close to $600M in infrastructure across the City,’’ Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said.

“This is a significant amount of money and people will be able to see this investment in action whether it’s through more trees being planted as part of our Urban Greening Strategy, upgrade works in Corrimal, Cringila, Helensburgh, Warrawong and Wollongong’s commercial centres. There will also be improvements to footpaths and cycleways, and the installation of better lighting at nine of our sportsfields.

“What’s particularly exciting is we’ve been able to put together this ambitious program without increasing our domestic waste or stormwater management charges, and we have kept our rates in line with the Independent Pricing And Regulatory Tribunal’s recommendation of a 2.7 per cent increase, which is approximately $40 for an average land value.’’

Cr Bradbery said he was keen to hear from people across our City about what they thought of the draft Delivery Program and Operational Plan.

“This is an opportunity for our residents to see what Council is planning and for them to tell Council what they think of these plans,’’ Cr Bradbery said.

“Council will always be about the daily services like rubbish collection, libraries and swimming pools but we’re also about looking forward and making sure we’re putting in place plans and infrastructure to make sure we’re delivering for our community into the future.’’
