Following the 2017 Local Government General Election, the West Daly Regional Council is proud to announce the appointment of its new Mayor, Mr John Wilson, and its new Deputy Mayor, Mr Terry Sams. The office holder appointments were made at Council’s first meeting on 13 September 2017 in Wadeye.
Mayor John Wilson is a representative of the Tyemirri Ward and is from the community of Peppimenarti. He is a member of the Northern Land Council and the Board of the Top End Aboriginal Bush Broadcasting Association. Mayor Wilson follows in the footsteps of his older brother, the late Mr H Wilson, who was the founding Mayor of the West Daly Regional Council.
Mayor Wilson stated “With my Deputy and Councillors, I look forward to overseeing our new Council’s commitments to improving service delivery, local jobs for local people, better two-way communication with residents and strong management of Council, for the benefit of people across the West Daly region”.
Deputy Mayor Terry Sams is a representative of the Thamurrurr Pindi Pindi Ward and is from the homeland of Emu Point. Deputy Mayor Sams stated “I am proud to be appointed to this senior position on the new Council, which gives the homelands across our region a stronger local voice on issues that are important to us”.
CEO Shaun Hardy stated “We congratulate the new Mayor and Deputy Mayor in their important roles. Council has a very strong team of local elected members, which the management team and staff looks forward to working with to deliver great outcomes’.
