ARTTRA artists ignite their creative glow

Running across three spectacular nights this April, ARTTRA Light Festival will transform Claremont Park into an interactive outdoor gallery with 16 original light themed installations.

Western suburbs artist Sean Adamas is one of the sculptors who will be unveiling a dazzling new work at the festival.

An emerging contemporary artist renowned for his interactive installations, Sean said ARTTRA provides an opportunity to do something different.

 “As an artist, being able to produce a piece of public art that will be seen both during the day and during the night is hugely exciting,” Sean said.

“It’s rare that your work will quite literally be seen in different lights, and that brings with it the opportunity to create something changeable, both in itself and because of its surroundings.”

Sean’s work, Crystallines, is a group of three monolithic structures with ever-changing colours that juxtapose the surrounding parkland and built elements. Integrated movement sensors detect approaching visitors, creating new lighting patterns as people interact with the sculptures.

This will be Sean’s fourth contribution to a Town of Claremont exhibition, and another of his works will appear in May at the Town’s annual Off the Page exhibition.

“The Town runs several very different art exhibitions throughout the year, from ARTTRA to the annual Art Award. As an artist, it’s fantastic to have such diverse opportunities to create and test new ideas and creative techniques right on my doorstep.”

Now in its fifth year, Mayor Jock Barker said ARTTRA Light Festival demonstrates the Town’s growing reputation for nurturing local, national, and international artists.

“ARTTRA Light Festival features new and bespoke pieces of public art from emerging and established artists from across Western Australia. It’s a huge privilege to be able to support these artists, made even more special by the fact that the Town makes their work accessible to the whole community for free for three incredible nights,” Mayor Barker said.

“ARTTRA truly is a spectacular festival of art and light, so it’s no wonder people flock to Claremont from across Perth and beyond to see some of the extraordinary artistic talent we have here in WA.”

ARTTRA Light Festival 2019 will showcase 15 local and West Australian artists, as well as a special installation by Claremont’s Freshwater Bay Primary School. All artworks are created especially for ARTTRA, where they will be seen by the public for the first time.

As well as lighting up their night with an illuminating stroll through Claremont Park’s bespoke installations, visitors can enjoy dinner at one of the delightfully delicious food stalls and mingle with an extravaganza of roving entertainers, with a special performance every night at 8pm.

Supported by Lotterywest, ARTTRA Light Festival is a free event for the whole community. It runs between Friday 5 and Sunday 7 April from 5pm to 9pm each night.   Back To News Stories
