A fourth Library is on the books for the City of Armadale if the Federal Labor party are elected at the next elections.
Shadow Minister for Regional Services, Territories and Local Government Stephen Jones MP, Matt Keogh MP Member for Burt and Yaz Mubarakai MLA Member for Jandakot announced today at Piara Waters Pavilion that if elected, a Shorten Labor party would commit $2.5M for a public library in the growth area of Harrisdale and Piara Waters – possibly to be located near the Stockland Harrisdale Shopping Centre.
City of Armadale Mayor Henry Zelones OAM, JP said the City was excited to hear the announcement today, and if received, the funding will assist with costs for a new library which will appeal to all ages and backgrounds in the area.
“A library in our growth areas has been in the City’s future plans for several years, and will accommodate a wide range of library and community based programs and activities to serve the growing population of the City.
“The community in Harrisdale have been asking us for a library and we are excited to be planning to deliver this to our community.
“We want children to experience the joy of sharing books and stories with their parents so that they build the early literacy skills they need to become good readers!”
The specific concept and design for the facility is yet to be determined, but it is envisaged to be 1,000 square metres, which is a similar size to the Armadale Library, and contain around 30,000 items, community access computers and digital resources, meeting and activity spaces, and exhibition space.”
The proposed facility is estimated to be operating by 2021.
