Woodward Place is the next transformational project aimed at cementing Liverpool as Sydney’s third CBD and the gateway to Western Sydney International.
Council’s overarching vision is for Woodward Place to become a regional destination in the heart of Liverpool, with open space, sport and recreation facilities and high-quality mixed use development.
The Woodward Place master plan is the first step towards making this a reality.
Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said Council is pleased announce a shortlist of highly-regarded firms invited to submit ideas for a master plan to transform Woodward Park over the coming years into a hub for community life.
“That we have nine firms of this calibre competing for the contract is an exciting sign for the future of our city,” Mayor Waller said.
“Last year, Council rezoned 25 hectares of the Liverpool CBD. The resident population of the CBD is expected to double to 30,000.
“Every day, those residents will be joined by students attending three major universities expanding their presence in our city centre, workers from across the region and people coming to enjoy the cultural experiences Liverpool has to offer.
“Woodward Place will be their playground.”
The shortlisted firms are Aspect Studio, CHROFI, Cox Architecture, Ethos Urban, GHD, Group GSA, Hassell, RPS Australia, SJB Architecture.
The winning designer will be announced by June and will produce a 20 to 30-year master plan to transform Woodward Park into Woodward Place as Liverpool grows.
Woodward Park is a 28-hectare site in the Liverpool CBD, which is home to the Whitlam Centre, netball courts, football fields and a range of community services and facilities.
“We are talking to organisations that use Woodward Park and will expand these discussions throughout the process,” Mayor Waller said.
“Council is committed to ensuring that plans take into account the wonderful contributions that local organisations make to our community.”
A preliminary concept design for Woodward Place is expected by the end of the year.
Council had 23 firms express their interest in producing the master plan.
