Keep your mate safe, Microchip!

Losing a pet can be a traumatising experience for families. Making sure your pet is microchipped can be the difference between life and death.

Every year animals go missing from their homes due to inadequate fencing, theft or extraordinary escape artist skills. Whilst there are ways we can prevent our companions from getting loose inevitably hundreds of animals became lost last year in the Cessnock Local Government Area and many of those that weren’t microchipped never found their way home.

Cessnock City Council is inviting dog owners of the Cessnock LGA to come along to one of our microchipping days to microchip your pet, update your pet’s details and have a chat with our rangers. Best of all its absolutely free! Microchipping is a permanent method of identification and it’s every owner’s best chance of being reunited with their furry friend.

In an effort to decrease the number of pets that become permanently lost Council has increased the number of microchipping days. This year Council’s Ranger team will be offering microchipping days at a number of local parks across the Cessnock LGA. The first days will be held during May and for the first time this service will be offered September.

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent said the free microchipping day are always popular.

“We are proud to be offering residents with more opportunities to keep their mates safe. Pets who are microchipped have a better chance of being reunited with their owners, don’t put it off.”

In May you can catch up with our Ranger team in the following locations:

Wednesday 8 May Kurri Kurri Aquatic and Fitness Centre carpark  Monday 13 May North Rothbury Huntlee fenced Dog Park Monday 20 May Cessnock Sportsground         Tuesday 28 May at Weston Maybury Peace Park

The microchipping days are open to all dog owners who are residents of the Cessnock LGA. However due to the locations not being suitable microchipping cats, cat owners are encouraged to contact Council to arrange an appointment on 02 4993 4100.
