New features to improve key locations as part of Yeppoon Town Centre Smart Lighting Project

Throughout sections of the Yeppoon Town Centre (James Street, Normanby Street, Mary Street and Hill Street) public WiFi, LED pedestrian lighting, and CCTV are being installed.

Smart Parking sensors and pay stations are also being installed around the Yeppoon Lagoon Precinct as part of the project.

Deputy Mayor and Council’s Digital Economy and Innovation Champion Councillor Nigel Hutton said Council was fortunate to receive funding of $297,000 from the Queensland Government under the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program.

“The project is co-funded by Livingstone Shire Council providing $198,000, and is included in the 2018/19 budget,” Cr Hutton said.

“This project will provide integrated community infrastructure aimed at increasing foot traffic and longer visitation in the town centre for local businesses via increased public amenity, smart LED lighting, safety with CCTV integration, smart parking and free public WiFi.”

“These advanced elements all contribute to building a safe, connected and liveable community, as well as economic growth and employment, and Council look forward to residents, visitors and local businesses taking advantage of these upgraded locations throughout the CBD.”

“Council would like to sincerely thank the Queensland Government for this fantastic funding contribution that will help enhance the Yeppoon Town Centre and bring our community closer to embracing the digital age.”

Assistant Minister for Education and Member for Keppel Brittany Lauga said this exciting new project was a first for the Capricorn Coast.

“These upgrades will allow residents and visitors to enjoy the Yeppoon Town Centre in a new way by offering improved lighting, and an increase in safety with more CCTV installed throughout James Street and Normanby Street,” Mrs Lauga said.

“This funding is a step in the right direction to enhance the functionality of these central locations in Yeppoon, and I’m proud to have secured this Queensland Government grant for the betterment of our region.”

Mayor Bill Ludwig said this project was another great example of what can be achieved when levels of government work in partnership for shared long term outcomes.
