City volunteers rolled up their sleeves and helped with a number of tasks including clearing the garden area, removing grass and dirt, laying new woodchips and varnishing a cubby house. The volunteering efforts were the latest action in the City’s Corporate Volunteering Program, which is an initiative from the City’s Volunteering Strategy 2016 – 2022. City of Rockingham Chief Executive Officer Michael Parker said corporate volunteering helped to strengthen bonds across the City. "Corporate volunteering plays an important role in developing strong and connected communities so the City was delighted to assist Wanslea Early Learning and Development with a range of tasks," Mr Parker said. "Not only does corporate volunteering give community organisations the chance to boost their operations, it also gives City staff a fantastic opportunity to connect with residents and understand the value that local organisations like this bring to the community. It also illustrates the value the City places on key community groups that provide vital services to residents. "The work done at Wanslea Early Learning and Development is the first of three corporate volunteering efforts the City will engage in during 2019 and we look forward to helping other community groups in the months ahead." The Salvation Army Rockingham were the first to benefit from the City’s Corporate Volunteering Program in December 2017, when City staff helped relocate an op-shop. In May 2018 City employees also spent a day volunteering at the Rockingham Community Garden in Hillman and at Naragebup Environmental Centre. In November 2018 residents at Silver Chain’s Rockingham Respite Cottage were visited by City staff who helped make the cottage more dementia friendly. Wanslea Early Learning and Development is located at 1 Sepia Court, Rockingham.
