MEDIA RELEASE 17 April 2019

A group of Bathurst’s artisans will promote their crafts and the Bathurst Heritage Trades Trail at the Sydney Royal Easter Show on April 18 in a celebration of World Heritage Day.

The Bathurst Heritage Trades Trail is a showcase of rare and lost trades and crafts over one weekend. Four of Bathurst’s most important historic venues will be activated on 18-19 May and used to host up to 100 artisans practising their rare trades.

World Heritage Day, an annual event since 1982, aims to celebrate and enhance awareness of the importance of cultural heritage and efforts to protect and conserve it.

The Sydney Royal Easter Show is an opportunity to highlight the importance of World Heritage Day as well as cultural heritage. The display at the show will enable skilled artisans of the Bathurst Heritage Trades trail to take over the amphitheatre lawns and demonstrate their skills and the need to preserve their rare trades.

The special event has been accredited by the National Trust as part of the Australian Heritage Festival.

Mayor Graeme Hanger OAM said showcasing all that the Bathurst Heritage Trades Trail offers was a perfect fit for the event.

“The theme of World Heritage Day this year is ‘Rural Landscapes’, and it is well recognised that the Bathurst region boasts some of the most iconic and well-loved rural landscapes to be found in Australia”

“The Bathurst Heritage Trades Trail is a showcase of the region’s heritage along with the old trades and crafts which helped build Bathurst and created these wonderful landscapes that are the product of the interaction of nature and human ingenuity”.

Ten artisans will be displaying at the Sydney Royal Easter Show on 18 April. In addition, there will be a ‘Bathurst Heritage’ display within the Heritage Pavilion for the duration of the Show which will further promote the importance of the event and of heritage activation activities to the many thousands of visitors expected to attend.

The Bathurst Heritage Trades Trail tickets cost only $15 per person for two days, early bird tickets available online are only $12. Children under 16 years are free. To purchase tickets or for more information visit www.bathurstregion.com.au/bathurstheritagetradestrail
