Farmers Creek Environmental Works

Significant rehabilitation works are underway along Farmers Creek to achieve the outcomes of the Farmers Creek Master Plan

Council is continuing the implementation of the Farmers Creek Master Plan (FCMP) by enhancing our recreational and natural environment along Farmers Creek.

Professional bush regeneration contractors have been working hard treating weeds and establishing native plants along Sandford Avenue Lithgow. Works such as erosion control, and solutions to manage stormwater related issues have also commenced. It is hoped the waterway will become a recreational hotspot, while also providing important habitat for native species.

“Farmers Creek is at the very heart of our city and provides an important link through Lithgow that will become a haven for recreational users including walkers, cyclists, bird watchers and more” Mayor of Lithgow, Councillor Ray Thompson stated.

Construction of the first of three (3) pedestrian footbridges is also scheduled to commence in the coming weeks which will link Glanmire Oval and Coalbrook Street. Completion of the bridge will provide a continuous 3 km section of walking/cycling path from Geordie Street through to Tank Street. Completion of the remaining two bridges along Framers Creek will link into Lake Pillans and the existing footpath network.

Residents will be able to observe changes to the condition of the creek far more regularly as the recreational and amenity values of the area improve, encouraging more people to use this important space.
