Moree Water Park is on its way to becoming known as a world class facility when it will host the 2019 National waterskiing championships this Easter Long Weekend from Thursday 18 through to Sunday 22 April 2019.
The event will see over 250 competitors travelling from around Australia to battle it out and be crowned Australian Champion and has been proudly supported by a $3000 donation from Moree Plains Shire Council.
Stafford Scott, Chairman Tournament Water Ski Australia said “we are delighted to have competitors from every State represented at these Championships along with a large contingent of officials, family and friends who have travelled from across the country to attend this premier event”.
Mayor Cr Katrina Humphries explained that the Water Park, constructed by Moree Plains Shire Council for community water-based recreational and sports activities, was something that Council knew was right for the Moree Plains community.
“Given the option of evaporation ponds or a water park, there really was no dilemma, and here we are the centre of attention for all to come and see,” said Cr Humphries.
Spectators can see some of Australia’s best waterskiers go head to head and enjoy the numerous food stall vendors providing an array of fresh food and refreshments. Entry is free to all events during the day and the weekend will conclude with a fireworks display on Sunday night.
“This event would not be possible without the vision, support, and dedicated people of Moree in particular the Moree Plains Council and the Moree Water Ski Club who must all be congratulated,” said Mr Scott.
Council wishes everyone who attends a fantastic weekend and hopes that all the competitors and their families enjoy their time here in Moree.
If your community, sporting or educational group wishes to apply for financial assistance for a local event, function or sponsorship, applications for the period from July - September 2019 are due 14 June 2019.
