Local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people are being asked to help Council develop its first Reconciliation Action Plan.
The plan aims to support improved outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in Macedon Ranges Shire.
Chief Executive Officer, Margot Stork said the plan would also enable all residents to celebrate and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and culture, and to contribute to reconciliation.
“We’re establishing a working group to guide the development of the plan, which will be made up of Council staff and local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people,” Ms Stork said.
“We are keen to have local Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people join this working group and help shape the plan.”
If you identify as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person and wish to join the working group, you can express your interest by calling Community Partnerships Officer Stephen Hiley on (03) 5422 0286 or by emailing [email protected]
“The Reconciliation Action Plan will focus on strengthening relationships and creating meaningful opportunities with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples,” Ms Stork said.
“It will also focus on building a deeper understanding of reconciliation with Council staff and the broader community so that everyone sees themselves as having a responsibility for advancing reconciliation.”
The plan will reflect the reconciliation priorities of Traditional Owners and local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and Council will engage in community consultation with these groups later in the year. Following the drafting of the plan, the entire community will be able to have their say on the Reconciliation Action Plan.
