Inaugural Meeting of the Lithgow Council Women’s Advisory Committee

The Women’s Advisory Committee held a ‘Meet & Greet’ session on Tuesday, 9 April 2019 at Lithgow City Council.

Over 20 women turned up to show their support and commitment to women’s issues in Lithgow such as skills building and empowerment.

“Members of the Women’s Advisory Committee come from all walks of life, which highlights the diversity and strength of Lithgow”, said Mayor Ray Thompson.

“Different cultural backgrounds, life experiences and perspectives enable committees to better identify “blind spots” in the community, and work in an informed and innovative way”, continued Mayor Thompson.

“I’m absolutely in awe of the women that showed up at the inaugural meeting on Tuesday night. Each and every one of them is different and has something unique to offer”, said Cr Cass Coleman.

The women discussed many issues of importance, and overall themes included skills building, connected community, empowerment and enhanced service delivery.

In order to address these issues members will meet throughout the year in order to work in groups on areas of key importance.

Furthermore, the committee will have an advocacy role and be able to provide advice and raise issues that matter to women at the Council and state level.

“This is a proactive and dedicated group which will focus on achieving positive outcomes of equality, inclusion and respect for women in the Lithgow LGA”, said Cr Coleman.

“I look forward to working with the members of the Women’s Advisory Committee and am excited about the potential change we can co-create in our community”, continued Cr Coleman.
