The community is encouraged to show their support for local RSL groups by taking part in 2019 ANZAC Day services in Croydon and Ringwood.
The Ringwood and Croydon Returned Services League (RSL) branches will be hosting dawn services to commemorate the day.
Maroondah Mayor Cr Rob Steane said Council was anticipating another strong turnout by the local community.
“More than 100 years after the landing on Gallipoli, this day still resonates deeply with people young and old, and it is heartening to see this reflected in growing attendance numbers each year,” Cr Steane said.
The Croydon RSL Sub-Branch will host a dawn service at the Cenotaph located at the roundabout on the corner of Kent Avenue and Croydon Road, Croydon, from 5.45am on Thursday 25 April.
Maroondah Mayor Cr Rob Steane will be joined by Councillors Tasa Damante, Tony Dib, Marijke Graham and Paul Macdonald in laying a wreath on behalf of the community.
The Ringwood RSL Sub-Branch dawn service will take place at the Ringwood Memorial Clocktower on Thursday 25 April, from 5.30am.
Deputy Mayor Cr Kylie Spears will lay a wreath at this event, with Cr Nora Lamont and Cr Mike Symon also in attendance.
Cr Steane said these events were an opportunity for the community to reflect on the sacrifices of those who have bravely served our nation in wartime, and to the men and women who continue to serve in military conflict and peacekeeping operations around the world.
“It will indeed be a great honour for myself and my fellow Councillors to place a wreath on behalf of Council and the Maroondah community during these important and poignant ceremonies,” Cr Steane said.
Both services will be followed by refreshments at the RSL clubrooms.
