The quick thinking of a number of Northern Beaches Council workers has seen a damaged Lone Pine tree replaced less than 24 hours before ANZAC Day.

Deputy Mayor Sue Heins discovered the tree in Collaroy on Tuesday night and quickly notified staff.

A team led by the Executive Manager for Parks and Recreation Steve Lawler contacted Central Coast Council, who had a similar tree available.

Council was keen to replace the tree before the important annual ANZAC Day memorial ceremony tomorrow.

The vandalised tree was a sapling taken from a Lone Pine tree from Gallipoli during the First World War and held much significance.

The tree is part of a memorial avenue of trees alongside the beachfront at Collaroy which was planted to honour World War II soldiers.
