Collie will be WA’s premier trail adventure town

Collie is set to become a world-class destination for mountain bike riders, bush walkers and nature lovers, with a significant funding announcement from the McGowan Government today.

The $10m funding package will create more than 180km of high-quality mountain bike and hiking trails, including a 65km world-class ‘epic’ mountain bike trail network in the Wellington National Park.

The Westralia Conservation Park will become home to more than 35km of trails and a further 11km of trails will enhance the existing Arklow trail network.

A realignment of the iconic Munda Biddi cycle trail to travel through the town of Collie will create a more enjoyable experience for users and an additional 50km of trails will complete the five-day Wiilman Bilya hike from Collie.

Shire president Sarah Stanley said the investment in trails would put Collie on the map for local, national and international tourists.

“Mountain biking is one of the world’s fastest growing sports and is hugely popular in Western Australia with national and international tourists,” Cr Stanley said.

“The potential to grow our tourism industry in Collie benefits the whole community, not just those businesses who directly service visitors,” Cr Stanley said.

“Each dollar spent by tourists can circulate many times around our local economy, supporting local businesses and providing jobs across many sectors.”

“Tourism also helps showcase Collie as an attractive place to live for families, nature lovers and retirees looking for a change of pace.”

The development of trails and the tourism sector are part of the Shire’s broader efforts to continue to grow and diversify Collie’s economy, create jobs across a range of industries and maintain a vibrant community.
