Major Infrastructure Projects to Kick-Off
Shire of Harvey 24 Apr 2019

Harvey Shire Council awarded tenders for four major infrastructure projects at its Ordinary Council Meeting held on 23 April 2019.

Harvey Shire Council Acting Chief Executive Officer Shane Collie said the four projects would provide upgraded facilities, services and enhanced amenities for the community across a number of functional areas.

The projects include the construction of the Harvey Community and Sporting Facility, new headquarters for State Emergency Service in Australind, a new fire station in Binningup and additional aged care accommodation in Brunswick.

The tender for construction of the Harvey Community and Sporting Facility was awarded to Picton based company Civilcon WA and represents major improvements to the overall Harvey Recreation and Cultural Centre.

The improvements and upgrades comprise of:

The function/activity room; Kitchen; Administration area; Change rooms; Umpires’ room; First aid facility; Storerooms; and A spectator viewing area with tiered seating.

Construction of the new facility is scheduled to start next month.

The tender for the construction of a new SES Headquarters building in Australind and a new fire station in Binningup was awarded to BGC Construction.  The SES building in Australind will increase the level of fire and emergency services and support community safety as the population in that area continues to increase.  The building will include entrances and exit bays for three trucks, a training area, offices, storage and parking.

The new Binningup Fire Station will be located at Lot 1 Lakes Parade to provide better access and enhance response times in a fire emergency. The building will include a meeting/training room, offices, kitchen and operational spaces. Construction of these buildings will commence in 2019/20 and is anticipated to be completed in time for the 2020/21 fire season.

The tender for the construction of the Brunswick River Cottages Aged Accommodation Units Stage 2 was awarded to Civilcon WA.

Mr Collie said the expansion of Brunswick River Cottages had been a project in the making for a number of years and would provide eight additional rental units to offer affordable aged accommodation for people on low incomes.

He said there would also be three Lease for Life units built for people who want to downsize and stay living in their local community.

Mr Collie said it was “very positive to see the adoption of these tenders” and once construction was complete would assist in providing much-needed services and facilities in the community.
