Have your say on planning blueprint

Residents are being encouraged to have their say on how they would like to see Canterbury-Bankstown grow and change over the next 20 years.

Mayor Khal Asfour said Council’s Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS), will be the next step in setting the new direction for the City.

“The LSPS will interpret the vision already developed with the help of residents and captured in CBCity 2028 (Community Strategic Plan), and turn it into a planning blueprint that will guide the future of development of Canterbury-Bankstown to 2036,” he said. “It is the ‘how’ in achieving the vision.”

The LSPS will:

Provide a land use plan to protect, enhance and extend the City’s green spaces and waterways;Promote housing diversity, including affordable housing;Ensure the City’s centres remain productive and employment areas prosper;Protect the amenity of residential areas and advocate for strengthening public transport access to the City;Concentrate on integrated and convenient movement across the City and beyond to the cities of Sydney, Parramatta and Liverpool; andFor the first time, cement the critical importance of Canterbury-Bankstown within the Sydney metropolitan area, linking to key jobs and activity centres in the North West, Macquarie Park and second Sydney airport.

The LSPS starts the process to developing a new City-wide Local Environmental Plan and Development Control Plan for Canterbury-Bankstown, along with other important strategic documents.

Mayor Asfour said the involvement of residents in the process is vital.

“While our aim is to create vibrant and dynamic places, we will also work to protect the suburban, or village, attributes of our City that we love,” he said.

“Last time we engaged with the community on the CSP, we received an overwhelming response, with more than 1,600 surveys completed and in excess of 10,000 conversations.

We want and need our residents and businesses to also be part of this next stage.”
